The Estate

Since the inaugural vintage of our Decoy Napa Valley Red Wine almost a quarter century ago, Decoy has taken an important place in the Duckhorn Wine Company family of wines. With a reputation for delivering great quality at a remarkable price, Decoy has established a loyal following for its distinctive style, which emphasizes ready-upon-release wines that are capable of expressing their full charm and complexity in their youth. Building on this foundation, Decoy has evolved from being a single wine that supported the Duckhorn Vineyards brand to being a supporting brand for the entire Duckhorn Wine Company portfolio.

Wine Making

To benefit from the diversity of Decoy’s great fruit sources, Dana and her team do as many as 150 individual fermentations each vintage with many lots as small as 5 tons. From there, hands on practices like open-top punch downs and lees stirring are applied.

"The signature briary, black-peppery characteristics of the variety feature in this medium- to full-bodied wine in the first vintage that it is labeled as California AVA—now using grapes from Sonoma, Mendocino and the Central Coast. Aged in French oak, with 30% new, this wine delivers great balance, crystal clear fruit flavors and an appetizing texture, as moderate tannins grip and shape the raspberry, pepper and wild sage notes." – 91

"The 2019 Decoy Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc is one of the North Coast's top fine wine values. This wine on point in its varietal accuracy. TASTING NOTES: This wine brings focused aromas and flavors of dried herbs, citrus, and earth to the fore. Enjoy it with a freshly-baked baguette, young goat cheese, and black forest ham. Add a little Dijon mustard as an accent."
