The 2022 Odette Reserve Chardonnay opens with bright, inviting aromatics of citrus, white peach, Bartlett pear, and honeysuckle, layered with richer tones of lemon curd, graham cracker, and baking spice that suggest oak and malolactic work. On the palate it is lush and creamy—macadamia nut, nectarine, pineapple and subtle custard flavors stand out—yet it retains a spirited acidity that keeps it lively and balanced, leading to a long, elegant finish.
The Estate
This wine is sourced in part from the Hudson Ranch in Los Carneros, which brings cooler conditions that help retain freshness. It includes blocks of “Old Shot Wente” selection (also referred to as “Chicks and Hens”), known for producing elegant, precise Chardonnay.
Wine Making
The use of new French oak and extended barrel aging is evident—oak-driven spice, vanilla/caramel tones, and richer textural components show that oak is playing a significant role. Also suggested is secondary malolactic fermentation (or at least some creamy/ buttery undertones) to soften the wine and add texture.
Food Suggestions
Pairs well with roasted or seared shellfish (like lobster or scallops) with butter sauces; roasted chicken or turkey, especially when accompanied by mushrooms or creamy elements; pork with fruit glazes; or dishes with nuttiness (like browned butter or toasted nuts) to echo the wine’s oak and macadamia tones.
