Reviews

The Hi-Vista vineyard in western Carneros and the Grossi vineyard north of Petaluma contribute spice and bright tangy acidity. The Leveroni vineyard south of Sonoma contributes the unique floral character of the Sauvignon ‘musque’ clone. The resulting blend has a bouquet of nectarine and grapefruit zest, leading to lush fruit flavors of kiwi, lime and grapefruit. It finishes with a refreshing minerality and zesty acidity.

The Estate

Schug Carneros Estate Winery is situated on a 50-acre site in the Carneros Appellation, south-west of the town of Sonoma. Vineyards of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay surround the winery, while other grapes are bought in from highly respected and experienced growers. The Carneros District lies at the south end of both the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. An area of low hills and flatlands, the region is profoundly affected by cool marine air from the bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Wine Making

This well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from cool vineyards in the southern end of the Sonoma Coast AVA. 75% fermented in neutral 137 to 1,107-gallon oak casts and 25% stainless steel fermented.

Food Suggestions

Pairs well with a wide range of soups, salads, and shellfish dishes.

Tastings Panel – 92

"Aged on the yeast sur lie for 3 months in neutral casks and 25% stainless steel fermented, the aromatics remind us of a sea breeze with scents of crisp pear. Notes of linen and laurel prickle the tongue, while Key Lime pie and grapefruit zest are surrounded by honeysuckle and jasmine."

James Suckling – 91

"An aromatic nose of apricots, peaches and Mediterranean herbs. Medium-bodied and rather concentrated and flavorful. Zesty acidity keeps the palate bright throughout. Pleasantly tart."

Wine.com – 90

"The 2021 Schug Sauvignon Blanc focuses excellently on this grape variety. TASTING NOTES: This wine offers aromas and flavors of dried herbs, savory spices, and tart citrus. Enjoy it with a plate of linguine and clams in a garlic-accented sauce."
