Reviews
This Pinot Noir opens with layered aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate, accented by rose petal, dried herbs, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied with a silky yet firmly structured texture, delivering concentrated red and dark fruit flavors framed by fine-grained tannins. Earthy notes of forest floor, crushed stone, and savory spice add complexity through the mid-palate. Bright acidity keeps the wine focused and energetic despite its depth. The finish is long, precise, and powerfully elegant, pointing to excellent aging potential.

The Estate

Calera Wine Company is a benchmark producer for Burgundian varietals in California, with a singular focus on the high-elevation, limestone soils of Mt. Harlan. The De Villiers Vineyard contributes a more powerful, structured expression within Calera’s single-vineyard lineup, emphasizing depth and longevity.

Wine Making

Pinot Noir grapes are sourced exclusively from the De Villiers Vineyard on Mt. Harlan, planted in limestone-rich soils at elevation. Fermentation and aging follow a Burgundian-inspired approach, including oak aging to build structure and nuance while preserving site transparency. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, balance, and long-term cellar potential.

Food Suggestions

This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with duck, roasted chicken, and game birds, as well as mushroom-based dishes and truffle-accented cuisine. It also complements pork tenderloin, lamb, and aged cheeses. Its structure and depth make it ideal for refined, food-driven menus and special-occasion dining.
