Domaine Pierre Prieur & Fils is a multi-generational, family-run wine estate located in Verdigny in the Sancerre appellation of the Loire Valley, France. The domaine’s history stretches back eleven generations of Prieur family winegrowers, each cultivating vines on some of the region’s most celebrated terroirs such as Les Monts Damnés, Les Bouffants, and Le Chêne Marchand. This long heritage of vine growing and winemaking is foundational to the estate’s identity and style.
The vineyards collectively span more than 15 hectares, with approximately **12 hectares planted to Sauvignon Blanc and the remainder to Pinot Noir — the two traditional varietals of the Sancerre region. The soils vary across classic Sancerre sub-types: terres blanches (clay-limestone), caillottes (stony limestone), and silex (flinty clay), each contributing distinct flavor and structural nuances to the wines.
Domaine Pierre Prieur & Fils focuses on terroir-driven, authentic winemaking. The estate performs hand harvesting to preserve grape integrity and vinifies parcels separately to capture their unique expressions. This meticulous approach leads to wines that reflect both the vineyard sites and the cool-climate character of Sancerre — from lively, mineral-accented Sauvignon Blancs to balanced and elegant Pinot Noirs.
The domaine also places strong emphasis on environmental stewardship. It achieved certification in Organic Agriculture beginning with the 2023 vintage, and has long been recognized with High Environmental Value (Level 3) certification for biodiversity protection and minimized chemical inputs.
