Beneath that citrus bouquet lie softer herbal tones: celery leaf lending a crisp, savory edge, supported by parsley and mint undertones that enhance its fresh profile. On the palate, the sweetness of the orange pairs with juniper’s piney bite, while coriander and cardamom gently spice the mid-palate. This gin is distilled by Rutte & Son in Dordrecht, Netherlands (now under De Kuyper), a distillery with roots going back to 1872. The recipe uses only organic botanicals. Key botanicals include juniper, coriander, angelica root, orris root, cassia, bitter and sweet orange peel, cardamom, and celery leaf — the latter being a distinctive component in Rutte’s DNA, though it’s not related to garden salad celery. Fresh orange zest is peeled by hand, which accentuates citrus oils in the distillate. They emphasize natural flavorings, no artificial colours or flavouring, and rely on craft distilling methods. Unaged and bottled clean, this gin retains clarity while delivering strong botanical character.
In food pairing, its brightness and crisp herbal qualities make it a strong partner for lighter seafood dishes — think ceviche, fresh oysters, or grilled shrimp. It complements vegetable-forward plates especially well: salads with citrus vinaigrettes, herb gratins, or dishes with parsley, fennel, or celery.
