Vintage Description

This Schioppettino opens with aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and plum layered with notes of black pepper, violet, and spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant red and dark fruit flavors supported by fine tannins. A signature peppery note defines the wine’s character. Bright acidity provides balance and freshness. The finish is long, spicy, and slightly savory.

The Estate

Rodaro is known for preserving and promoting indigenous Friulian varieties like Schioppettino. The winery’s hillside vineyards and careful winemaking allow this rare grape to express its distinctive spice and structure. The style highlights both tradition and regional character.

Wine Making

Grapes are harvested from hillside vineyards and fermented with careful extraction to preserve aromatics and structure. Aging typically occurs in neutral vessels or lightly used oak to maintain varietal expression. The winemaking approach emphasizes spice, balance, and finesse. The result is a distinctive, terroir-driven red.

Food Suggestions

This Schioppettino pairs beautifully with grilled meats, game, and spiced dishes. It also complements mushroom-based preparations and aged cheeses. A compelling option for adventurous wine lists and Italian-focused menus.
