To taste, the wine is initially tense and striking, with crunchy orchard fruit and hints of tangy cranberry. It’s very pure, with a textured oaty grip that contrasts well with the clean, precise fruit flavors and delicate minerality. I particularly enjoy this style of steely, mineral, precise sparkling wine, so this was a big hit with me at a recent visit to the vineyard.
After 4 years of purchasing grapes we secured 12ha of established vineyards across 3 sites in the beautiful Test Valley, Hampshire and a group of buildings that have been transformed into the new home of Black Chalk, including a new Hampshire Winery and Tasting Room. This new home has allowed us to focus in more detail on what Hampshire and these vineyards can do so well.
This small batch traditional method sparkling wine is created using the three classic varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The use of oak barrels and time on lees provide this wine with depth and complexity. The result is a fruit driven, perfectly balanced, crisp English sparkling wine.
Pairs well with shellfish, appetizers and snacks, lean fish, and aperitif.
