Black Chalk

Black Chalk Wild Brut Rosé English Sparkling Wine

Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
Tasting Notes
Technical Details

The Wild Rose has an elegant nose of wild strawberry with hints of raspberry as well as soft, light notes of sweet pastry and brioche. It has a super bright and fresh palate with exuberant youth and freshness that leads to tangy cranberry and raspberry. This is quite linear and direct, but there’s a beautiful sense of purity and an almost powdery, sherbert-like texture. Give it time in the glass, and you will be rewarded.

47% Pinot Meunier, 28% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir grape blend.
This wine contains allergens, sulfites.
The Estate

Black Chalk is a labour of love from award-winning winemaker Jacob Leadley and family, with the eagerly-awaited inaugural 2015 vintage wines released in April 2018. Truly exceptional fruit is sourced entirely from vineyards in Hampshire, a quintessentially English landscape Jacob knows well, having been making world-class sparkling wines at Hattingley Valley since 2011.

Wine Making

Grapes sourced solely from a small handful of chalk downland sites in the county of Hampshire, with an unusual dominance of Pinot Meunier, a red grape the winemaker Jacob believes is particularly suited to the local climate. Grapes are pressed and the juice undergoes primary fermentation in stainless steel tank then secondary fermentation in bottle as per the traditional method.

Food Suggestions

Pairs well with shellfish, appetizers and snacks, lean fish, and aperitif.
