It is dense, ripe, and very lengthy, with a lifted palate of peppery spice and minerality that are hallmarks of the variety. Unique, and a pleasure to drink.
Castro Ventosa was founded by the Perez family in 1752 and the family owns the estate ever since. The Perez family owns 75 hectares of Mencía vineyards in Bierzo making them the biggest owners of this varietal within the Bierzo D.O.
Castro Ventosa is one of Bierzo legend Raul Perez’s many projects. Made from 100-year-old Mencía and 6% white grapes, Cepas Centenarias is a reference point for Bierzo and arguably one of Spain’s most impressive wines.
Pairs well with veal, deer, venison, and poultry dishes.
