This classic Carneros region Pinot Noir offers a wide range of flavors and aromas thanks to its clonal diversity. The individual clones from several vineyard lots are vinified separately and then carefully selected and blended, each retaining its unique clonal signature. The result is a complex wine with a rich bouquet of dusty warm berries, and hints of floral notes and baking spices. It is bursting with juicy flavors of black cherry and plum, wrapped in a silky and elegant texture, and ending with a long, flavorful finish.
Schug Carneros Estate Winery is situated on a 50-acre site in the Carneros Appellation, south-west of the town of Sonoma. Vineyards of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay surround the winery, while other grapes are bought in from highly respected and experienced growers. The Carneros District lies at the south end of both the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. An area of low hills and flatlands, the region is profoundly affected by cool marine air from the bay and the Pacific Ocean.
This Carneros Pinot Noir was harvested from the Ricci Vineyards, Schug Estate, Leveroni Veinyard, and Sangiacomo Vineyard. Fermented from 12 to 15 days in stainless steel punch-down fermenters, with cap immersion up to three times daily.
This wine pairs nicely with lamb, duck, and grilled fish and will improve with additional cellaring for 2 to 5 years.
